There is SO much information out there on how to eat healthy. You type into google “what is the best diet” and there will be so many webpages that pop up and they will all say something different.
I’m going to jump in and give you 4 easy to improve your eating TODAY* without feeling like you need to buy a ton of supplements, change your whole life or empty out your whole pantry.
Include protein in every meal. Protein is so important for everyone, whether you are looking to maintain, gain muscle, lose weight, gain weight etc. I’ve had people tell me they worry about eating too much protein and getting too bulky. From my personal experience, I have never had a client eat too much protein. More often than not, we under consume protein. A good measure of thought is consuming 0.8-1.2 grams of protein per kg. Some literature even suggests doing 1 gram per 1lbs of weight. If you are starting off new, aim for the 0.8-1.2 grams and see how that works for you!
Up your vegetables. Yes we may eat vegetables already (some corn at lunch in our salad or perhaps green beans for dinner) but truth be told we usually need more. Vegetables have nutrients and vitamins that are not only vital for our bodies but also help us stay healthier longer and decrease the risk of developing certain cancers and metabolic diseases. If you are not a huge fan of vegetables, try oven roasting them or adding them to soups. Vegetables also ensure you feel full and satisfied and are less likely to negatively impact your insulin levels.
Eat more berries. Berries such as blueberries and strawberries for example are very low in sugar per serving but also have high fiber content. They are delicious and easy to add into other meals or snacks to up the fiber content.
Make your meals colorful. The more color you have (fruits and veggies) on your plate that more vitamins, fiber and antioxidants properties you are going to fuel your body with. Mix up your bell peppers, try different carrots, mix your sweet potato in with your Brussel sprouts, simply get creative!
