Hey Mamas! We see you working hard, staying up late, making things special for your kids, and always ready to help. Being a mom takes a lot of energy and patience that can sometimes leave you with little motivation to care for yourself. A lot of days there just isn’t time to get a full workout in or take time for yourself, and we are here to encourage you in those moments.
Here are a few of our favorite ways to find movement, joy, and self-care even as a tired, busy mom.
- Mini movement moments– Add in small moments throughout your day! A few squats while kids get their shoes on or a wall sit when someone is washing their hands. Run around in the yard with your kids or even jog in place while pushing the swing. Maybe you do a 5-10 minute strength workout (check out a free workout below!). Remember, every bit of movement you do adds up!
- Stay hydrated– Drink plenty of water! Staying hydrated can make a big difference in how we feel. On especially busy days take care of yourself by drinking plenty of water.
- Use your recovery tools– Stretching and foam rolling are great ways to get some physical movement in during quiet moments. Grab your foam roller as you read a bedtime story or stretch while the kids are playing!
- Go outside – Sun and fresh air are good for everyone, so head outside and allow your body and mind to embrace nature!
- Phone a friend – Text or call your best friend. Nothing lifts the spirits like a good talk with a friend.
- Practice mindfulness – Mindfulness may seem like the last thing you want to do when you feel tired. However, taking time to practice mindfulness can actually help boost your focus, attention and mood. Play rainforest sounds and just listen for 2-3 minutes. Maybe you focus on your senses when doing a chore (smell, touch, sound) to help you stay present without your mind wondering around.
Remember, you don’t have to do it all. Try one of these and see how you feel, but don’t overwhelm yourself trying to do everything at once. Mama, you’re doing an amazing job. Treat yourself the way you treat your kids- have grace and patience in the hard moments and don’t forget to say “I love you!”
